30 Days of Prayer for the North Shore

On Sunday we kicked off 30 days of prayer for the North Shore. To unite our hearts, we have provided a Prayer Guide written by local people and born from the desire to meet God where he is working, right here in our communities.

Why a prayer guide like this? In Scripture, prayer is not treated as an afterthought. A vibrant prayer connection to his Father marked the life of Jesus. It has also preceded every major spiritual awakening in history. Spiritual renewal does not exist outside of prayer. We long to know our community through the eyes of all people who live here. It’s natural to assume one’s experience is normative—that the view from our own kitchen window must be the average experience of all of our neighbors. This guide aims to bring together a diversity of perspectives and unite our hearts in prayer. To better know our community is to pray for it and to join with those who are seeking its welfare.

We hope you will make the Prayer Guide your own. Here are some ideas:

  • As God brings to mind people who live in the various communities or people who may be involved in some of the issues referenced, write their names in the margin and pray for them intentionally.
  • Pray for God to make himself known in people’s lives. You might even try prayerfully meditating on what it might look like if God were to make himself more known in your life and in the lives of others.
  • Use the guide, or a portion of it, to pray with your family, a friend, your small group, or a combination of all of these.
  • Partner with a friend and help each other stay accountable to praying each day.
  • After reading the background and suggested requests, try praying through the ACTS model of prayer: Adoration (Praise God for his attributes) which leads naturally into Confession (of where you fall short); Thanksgiving (expressing the good God is doing); Supplication (asking, especially in ways that align with the priorities God has revealed to us already).

Thank you for making time in your life and in your family’s life to pray with intentionality for our communities.

Work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare. —Jeremiah 29:7

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. —Romans 12:12
