The second habit of resilient Christ-followers
In my last newsletter, I noted that much has been written about the fact that ~66% of 18-22-year-olds walk away from their faith (at least temporarily–I firmly believe that God is present in our journey for a lifetime!) While I don’t want this statistic to cause fear–God is bigger than statistics–I do believe that it’s worth noting that many of the young people who continue to have a vibrant relationship with Jesus tend to have 5 things in common.
Habit 2: The 34% of youth who stayed connected to Christ had at least one faith-focused adult in their life (outside of their family).
Don’t get me wrong–this is NOT a plea to outsource your child’s spiritual formation–but having one or more important adults in your child’s life who see them consistently, care about them, and model what it looks like to love Jesus is pretty important, especially as your kids get older.
I’m so grateful for the relationships your kids make with their children’s ministry teachers and leaders. I would encourage you to get to know their Sunday School teachers and other leaders–these have been valuable partners for me as I’ve raised my own children! Want to know who teaches your kids? Let me know!
