Children and Families
We want to help your kids find their place in God's Big Story
Our vision for children’s ministry: We desire to help kids find their place in God’s Big Story as they are shaped by the gospel, formed by intergenerational community, and experience and share the grace and love of God.
Sunday Morning Ministries
From September – May we hold two worship services. During the first service, younger children worship with their peers and older children worship with their families. During the second service, there is also Sunday School for kids and adults. Use this table to find the children’s program that fits best for your family.
Summers (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend) the nursery, Preschool Worship, and Children’s Worship run during our single 10 am worship service.

Nursing Mother's and Care Rooms
Our Care Room is a quiet space with windows that overlook the sanctuary and a livestream of the service where parents can take their young children who need a flexible and comfortable place to be.
Our Nursing Mother’s Room (located next to the nursery) is equipped with a comfy chair, a changing table, and a livestream of the service. Both the Care Room and the Nursing Mother’s Room are available during both services.

Ministry Information
Children's Worship
A special time of worship is provided during the 1st service for children age 4.5 through 2nd grade. Our Children’s Worship program is designed to help children worship in a special place apart from the worshiping congregation so they become able to worship meaningfully with the congregation. Kids will worship, pray, and learn together in engaging, fun ways, using “The Biggest Story” curriculum for the teaching, games, and craft time.
Preschool Worship
Preschool Worship is designed to meet the needs of young kids (ages 2.5-4.5) in a safe and loving environment where they can grow to trust the church as a fun and comfortable environment. Children attend during the entire 9:15 worship service.
Our Preschool Worship curriculum has been written and curated by Jessi Rennekamp, who leads the ministry along with her husband Andrew. The curriculum pairs short devotionals and Bible stories from leading children’s ministry resources with interactive questions and discussion points that are accessible for young children, and includes memory verses, prayer time topics, and hands-on crafts or activities to accompany each lesson.
Nursery
The nursery provides a warm, caring environment for little ones (6 weeks – 2.5) during both Sunday worship services. Our team of volunteers provides a loving environment to care for your child while you attend Sunday School and/or Worship. Vibrating pagers are available for parents to take with them so nursery staff can unobtrusively notify you if needed. The Nursery Room (Room 208) is primarily a large, inviting play space with a separate room for nursing mothers. There are lots of colorful toys which are disinfected regularly, as well as changing tables and diaper supplies. We want children from the earliest age to feel secure in church and to sense God’s love.
Sunday School
11:00am Sept-May
The first ministry of NSCBC was a Sunday school program almost 200 years ago. We are proud to continue in this mission to impart faith to the next generation.
Brite is designed to help nurture resilient disciples who can say:
- I believe in Jesus.
- I’m becoming more like him.
- I belong to him forever.
Protecting children and volunteers
All of our helpers have undergone national background checks, and there are at least two volunteers present at all times. We have a sign-in/sign-out system for security through PCO. All families are asked to check in their children (infant-2nd grade) at the welcome desk. Children receive stickers noting his/her name, age and any special instructions that will help us in caring for your child. Parents receive a tag to pick up their children, ensuring safety at pick-up time.
